One of the longest walks in Welsh rugby from changing room to pitch was well worth the effort in the end as Dunvant gained revenge with a bonus point win at Vardre.
Rob Murphy and his team were left stunned after Vardre had won the opening league match of the season at Broadacre.
But a comprehensive performance put paid to that disappointment on Saturday as man of the match Harry Jones breezed over for two of Dunvant’s four tries.
Vardre, who dominated the scrummage early on, came out the blocks the stronger and deserved a 3-0 lead with a third minute penalty.
But Dunvant gradually got in their stride and scored their first try on 13 minutes with some great vision by flanker Ryan Stagg who picked up at a ruck and went over unopposed.
Dunvant took that 5-3 lead into half time before dominating for most of the second half.
The coaching staff must have been delighted that a training ground move saw Harry Jones burst through on an incisive angle to score his side’s second try.
And the match was all but put to bed when Liam Manning pounced on a Vardre knock on to run in for the third try from 50 metres out. Sam Powell converted the second and third tries as the youth led 19-3 going into the final 15 minutes.
With the match won Dunvant went in search of the bonus point and it was Jones who burst through again to claim try No. 4.
