Half-Time: Cwmllynfell 7 Dunvant 17

Dunvant had to make a late change overnight when 1st XV debutant Ollie Dickerson, recently transferred in from Fall Bay had to pull out through injury and was replaced by Tom Davies on the right wing, with Mitch moving to full back and Adam to left wing. Also debuting for Dunvant 1st XV on the bench was home grown Jamie Fletcher who excelled at 10 last week for the 2nd XV. Cwmllynfell were fielding former Dunvant star Anthony Rees, who now coaches our Under 9’s, playing at full back, and Captain & flanker Matt Steinman who played on permit from Tata Steel for Dunvant two seasons ago against Penclawdd.
Cwmllynfell kicked off playing down a 10 point slope and within 7 minutes had scored their first try which was converted for 7-0. (Regretfully I cannot give you their scorers, only a squad in the programme and no tannoy system.) Dunvant, with the disadvantage of playing up hill soon put a strong period of pressure on Cwm and from a 5 metre scrum, Dunvant’s pack pushed over the line for loosehead prop Ryan Shoemark to score on 20 minutes, Aled Lewis failing with the conversion for 7-5. 5 minutes later a fabulous try was scored by right wing Tom Davies who from inside his own half jinked passed four defenders to score in the right hand corner, Aled again missed the conversion but Dunvant had the lead at 7-10. Not to be outdone, Adam Williams –Parry on the left wing, making his first appearance of the season showed he had lost none of his pace and skill with an awesome try,. Again from inside his own half, Adam put in a kick and chase and outran the Cwm defence to score on the left side try line , this time Aled converting for a halftime lead of 7-17.
From Dunvant’s 2nd half restart, Cwm were soon awarded a penalty kick at goal which took the score to 10-17, Aled Lewis replying with a penalty just inside the 22 a few minutes later for 10-20.
On 55 minutes, Dunvant got their bonus point try from another break by Adam with lock Chris Gorvett in support who ran over to score, Aled’s conversion just wide, for 10-25. Cwm pulled back a try in the right hand corner on 63 minutes for 15-25 but Tom Davies, having his best ever performance in red and green scored his second try for 15-30. Cwm were seeing little of the ball and Adam scored again after a terrific break by scrum half Sam Gallagher from our own 10 metre line which took the score to 15-35. Maybe Dunvant then relaxed a bit, threw on all the subs to give the boys a game and Cwm had the final say right at the close to bring the final score to 20-35. This was a superb away performance with the team hitting the sweet button for the first time this season. The 2nd XV had their 3rd successive victory of the campaign, winning 38-7 against Skewen to remain at the top of the Division A league. Next up for Dunvant 1st XV is Swalec Plate Round 1 action at Broadacre against neighbours Waunarlwydd to whom we last 5-9 in our last home game. Bring it on!!
